La Jolla

La Jolla is located in the northern city limits of San Diego, and is considered one of the wealthiest parts of the United States.The Salk Institute a significant scientific research institute, and the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) are both located in La Jolla. The Scripps Institution of Oceanography is also located in La Jolla. La Jolla borders Pacific Beach to the South and Torrey Pines State Park just to the north. Torrey Pines State Reserve is a great place to hike. If you are touring La Jolla be sure to catch Mount Soledad for the vista and Windansea Beach for some surf breaks. Blacks Beach is another popular surf area in the area. La Jolla became part of the city of San Diego in 1850 when California was being surveyed as part of the United States. La Jolla Cove is near downtown La Jolla around the corner from Prospect Street. You will see nice little local businesses and restaurants on Prospect Street and the surrounding areas. La Jolla shores is a few minute drive from the cove and thats where you will in counter more flat sandy beaches.
